Trex Company has announced the limited release of Trex Refuge Decking, an ignition-resistant PVC decking product designed for use in specific areas with stricter fire safety regulations.
The new cellular PVC option, designed to meet demanding building requirements while keeping aesthetics, combines superior fire performance with the Trex brand’s signature intelligent design, durability, and low-maintenance benefits.
Trex Refuge decking, which has been third-party tested to the industry’s highest standards, resists fire and reduces flame spread, outperforming ordinary wood decking.
The line meets ASTM E84 Class A Flame Spread criteria and IWUIC ASTM E2768 Ignition Resistance Standards, making it suitable for use in fire-prone and Wildland-Urban Interface-protected regions (WUI).
“At Trex, our performance-engineered strategy is an innovation roadmap to address real-world consumer needs across diverse environments, including SunComfortable heat mitigation technology, submersible marine applications, and now dry, fire-prone conditions,” said Adam Zambanini, executive vice president and chief operating officer
“With Trex Refuge, homeowners gain a code-compliant fire solution that combines style, performance, and the trusted peace of mind associated with Trex.”
Trex Refuge decking, made in the United States, has a sophisticated, wire-brushed grain pattern and is available in two colors, each designed to evoke the natural beauty of its namesake landscapes:
- Point Reyes is a foggy coastal gray with cool undertones and polished grain inspired by the rough western shorelines.
- Martis Valley is a light, sun-washed beige with subtle golden undertones and a clean, modern finish.
Trex Refuge decking is available in 1″x16′ and 1″x20′ lengths, with solid, square-edge profiles that provide strength and design flexibility. The boards are compatible with existing Trex Fascia choices and may be mounted with Trex Hideaway Fasteners and color-matched plugs.
Trex Refuge decking is designed for long-term performance, resisting fading, staining, and scratching while not rotting, warping, or splintering.
It does not need to be sanded, stained, or sealed, as with all Trex decking. Trex Refuge also comes with a 50-year Limited Residential Warranty, which adds to its confidence and appeal.
“Fire-rated decking expands where and how builders can design outdoor spaces while helping them stand out in a competitive market,” according to Zambanini.
“Trex Refuge allows our partners to deliver code-compliant designs that meet safety standards without sacrificing beauty or performance.”
