Brock’s Building Materials is Acquired by Hammond Lumber

By   /

Brock’s Building Materials, a third-generation, family-owned business in Rochester, New Hampshire, has been acquired by Hammond Lumber. Hammond is a fourth-generation, family-owned, and operated building materials retailer that was founded in 1953. Hammond now has nearly 900 employees and 22 locations in Maine and New Hampshire as a result of the acquisition.

“We are overjoyed to welcome the Brock family and team.” Brock’s shares many of Hammond Lumber Company’s family-owned values, and both companies are excited about this new growth opportunity.

“Scott and Connie Brock felt there was a great fit between Brock’s and Hammond Lumber Company because both companies’ success has been built on providing exceptional customer service and taking care of their employees and customers,” said Mike Hammond, Hammond’s president, and CEO.

Maurice and Anne Brock founded Brock’s in 1961. For over 60 years, Brock’s has served the seacoast and lake regions of New Hampshire and southern Maine.

Hammond has hired all of Brock’s employees, and owners Scott and Connie Brock will be the branch manager and assistant branch manager of Hammond’s new Rochester location, respectively.

“During the initial phase of integration, our goal is for all employees at both companies to conduct business as usual.” We will collaborate with Brock’s team to ensure a smooth transition for all of our employees, customers, and vendors. “We anticipate minimal changes to both companies’ day-to-day operations and a continued focus on exceptional customer service,” said Mike Hammond, president, and CEO of Hammond.

According to the 2022 LBM Journal 100, Hammond is the largest lumber and building materials retailer in Maine and New Hampshire and the 21st largest LBM dealer in the country. The company has been named one of the 2021 Best Places to Work in Maine.

Hammond will keep Brock’s employees on board, bringing the total number of Hammond employees to nearly 900. Auburn, Bangor, Bar Harbor, Belfast, Belgrade, Blue Hill, Boothbay Harbor, Brunswick, Bucksport, Calais, Camden, Cherryfield, Ellsworth, Damariscotta, Fairfield, Farmington, Greenville, Machias, Portland, Rochester (NH), Rockland, and Skowhegan are among the company’s locations.

Hammond has been a family-owned and operated business in Belgrade since 1953. The family legacy is growing. Executive Vice President Don Hammond; his son, Mike Hammond, president and CEO; and, most recently, Mike’s daughters Sadie Hammond and Bethany Hammond, the fourth generation of the family business, are all involved in day-to-day operations.

Anchor Peabody was Hammond’s sole financial advisor in the transaction. The deal’s terms were not disclosed.
