Harlingen TX Gets a New Matt’s Building Materials Location

By   /

According to the Harlingen Economic Development Corporation, local lumberyard and home improvement center Matt’s Building Materials is thrilled to announce the opening of their fourth location in Harlingen, TX.

“Cameron County will be the hotspot in the valley for the next twenty years,” Jeremy Smith, one of Matt’s Building Materials’ co-owners, said.

“As people and companies continue to pour into the community, homes will need to be built to accommodate this growth.”

Despite the loss and ongoing rebuilding of their Pharr shop due to a fire in early 2022, Matt’s Building Materials has continued to grow market share and solidify their position as one of the Rio Grande Valley’s best building supply retailers.

“We’ve seen substantial growth in Cameron County over the past few years, and Harlingen is perfectly centered for serving the Lower Rio Grande Valley. The Harlingen store allows us to expand our capacity and meet the needs of our customers today and in the future,” continued Mr. Smith.

Matt’s Building Materials expanded into the community with the help of the Harlingen Economic Development Corporation (EDC) and the City of Harlingen.

Once constructed, the 5-acre parcel would have a 17,000-square-foot retail structure, a lumberyard, access to a rail spur for speedy material unloading, and over 20 jobs.

The salaries of its employees, as well as its contributions to the city’s sales and property taxes, making it an appealing addition to Harlingen.

“Harlingen is on the move, and myself, along with the Harlingen EDC and City Commission, are proud to welcome Matt’s Building Materials to our growing city,” Norma Sepulveda, mayor of Harlingen, stated.

“With Harlingen serving as a strategic corridor within the Rio Grande Valley, we are confident Matt’s picked the right place to locate their hub and eager for them to open their doors to the community.”
