FastenMaster Reaches Significant Recycling Milestone

By   /

FastenMaster, a division of OMG, Inc., has developed a recycling program that will save over 100 tons of waste from being sent to landfills by 2021 as part of its commitment to reducing environmental impact throughout the manufacturing process.

FastenMaster focused on waste reduction in 2021 by producing decking plugs for its Cortex Hidden Fastening System, which is designed for use with composite, cap-stock, and PVC decking boards, as well as PVC trim.

Waste material can be recycled into new board stock because Cortex plugs are manufactured directly from each manufacturer’s decking and trim boards for matching purposes.

FastenMaster recycled 200,000 pounds of PVC material in 2021, resulting in nearly 100 tons of waste being diverted from landfills and the creation of tens of thousands of new decking and trim products.

“Recycling is important to us not only because of the impact our products have on our pro contractors, but also because of the impact they have on our planet,” said John McMahon, vice president of FastenMaster’s decking business unit.

“Converting several dumpsters of PVC waste into new composite decking and trim each month is not only the beginning of what we can do, but it’s also the right thing to do for the environment.”
