Orgill Discloses Plans for a Distribution Center in Georgia

By   /

Orgill has announced plans to construct a new 800,000-square-foot distribution center in Tifton, Georgia. The new facility will replace Orgill’s current distribution center in Tifton, which opened in 1995 and is the company’s oldest location.

Orgill maintains eight full-service distribution centers in the United States and Canada, with locations in Inwood, West Virginia; Sikeston, Missouri; Hurricane, Utah; Kilgore, Texas; Post Falls, Idaho; Rome, New York; and London, Ontario.

According to Boyden Moore, Orgill’s president, and CEO, the investment in the new Tifton plant demonstrates Orgill’s commitment to enhancing distribution capabilities and maintaining one of the newest and most modern distribution networks in the hardlines business.

“We opened our second distribution center ever in Tifton 27 years ago, which was a huge milestone and foundational step in our growth to a national and international distributor.”

Many of our current managers and staff in Tifton assisted us in opening that distribution center in 1995. Today, that team will lead Orgill into the next phase of automation and efficiency,” Moore says.

“Getting products to our customers in a timely and efficient manner is critical to providing excellent service.” This new facility will strengthen our ability to do so and ensure that we keep our pledge to assist our customers to succeed.”

Orgill’s current Tifton facility is approximately 650,000 square feet in size and employs approximately 355 local residents. The expanded facility will not only provide capacity to the site, but it will also create new jobs in the neighborhood.

“The new distribution center will help increase our capacity, but we will also be adding new features and implementing new technologies to create greater efficiencies that will improve productivity and accuracy,” says Randy Williams, Orgill’s senior vice president of distribution.

“We also anticipate that, as the facility grows in size, the number of employees at the location will increase in the coming years.”

Tony McBrayer, chairman of the Tift County Board of Commissioners and Tift County Development Authority, welcomed Orgill’s commitment to the Tifton area. “Orgill has been a valued partner in our community for more than 25 years, and we are thrilled that they have decided to build an 800,000-square-foot, cutting-edge distribution facility in Tifton.”

“They are an exceptional company committed to our exceptional community, and we are grateful for their partnership,” McBrayer says.

“As the No. 1 state for business, companies that come to Georgia not only stay, but also grow and thrive, thanks to our robust workforce, dependable infrastructure, pro-business and partnership approach, and quality of life,” says Governor Brian Kemp.

“The collaboration between Orgill and Tifton is an excellent example of how businesses and communities can work together to create great places to live, work, and raise a family.” We are looking forward to Orgill’s ongoing growth and prosperity.”

According to Williams, Orgill’s current plans call for the new facility to be built adjacent to its current Tifton distribution hub, making the move easier for staff.

“Right now, we have a great team at Tifton, and we are excited about the opportunities this will provide for them,” he says.

“In addition to design elements and cutting-edge distribution technology, the new facility will include features such as air conditioning and productivity tools to make our world-class team more comfortable and efficient.”

According to Williams, construction on the new site will begin at the end of 2022, with a completion date of early 2024. To coincide with the opening of the new distribution center, Orgill will phase down operations at its current location.

For the planning and building of the new facility, Orgill is collaborating with its long-term partner, Georgia-based ARCO Design/Build.
