NAHB: Most Popular 2025 Projects are Bathroom Remodels

Bathroom remodeling was the most popular project of 2025, with an average rating of 4.1 and a 73% frequency score.

The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) conducts a quarterly survey of professional remodelers.

The initial section of the survey gathers the data needed to create the NAHB/Westlake Royal Remodeling Market Index (RMI).

The survey collects information needed to construct an overall reading, which is computed by averaging two indices: 1) the Current Conditions Index and 2) the Future Indicator Index.

The present Conditions Index is an average of three components: the present market for big renovation projects ($50,000 or more), medium-sized projects (at least $20,000 but less than $50,000), and minor projects (less than $20,000).

The Future Indicators Index is an average of two components: the present rate of lead and inquiry generation and the existing backlog of remodeling projects.

The results for Q4 2025 were revealed earlier this month and may be viewed here.

In addition to the RMI questions, the quarterly survey frequently includes a set of “special” questions on a topic of current interest in the remodeling business.

For the fourth quarter 2025 RMI survey, NAHB asked remodelers to rate the frequency of 22 remodeling projects for their company in 2025 on a scale of 1 to 5, with 1 being not common at all and 5 being highly often.

Bathroom remodeling was the most popular project in 2025, with an average rating of 4.1 and 73% of remodelers ranking it common to very common (4 or 5).

Other renovation jobs with average ratings above 3.0 include kitchen remodeling (3.9) and full house remodeling (3.5). More than half of remodelers evaluated both tasks as common or very common. Historically, NAHB remodelers have completed the three most typical sorts of projects: bathroom, kitchen, and full home remodeling.
