Boise Cascade Readies for Reduced Production

By   /

Boise Cascade provided a 60-day WARN Act notice to employees working at its plywood facility in Elgin OR.

It ensures “that all employees are aware that mill production levels could be reduced on or about Jan. 1, 2021″.

The demand and profitability of plywood remained robust, but the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality recently changed the waste and stormwater permits of the mill.

This endangered the facility’s continued operation.

“At the current time, we do not expect to have enough logs available to operate throughout the entire winter even if the open concerns with ODEQ are favorably resolved before the end of the year,” the company stated.

Boise Cascade mentioned that it reduced its purchase of logs for the plant.

They did this because of the possible of curtailment brought about by the modification of the environmental constraints.
